Laminate flooring

Laminate That Fits Your Budget — and Your House

Laminate is the budget pick. It gives you the look of a wood floor, stands up well to everyday foot traffic and scratches, and usually costs less than waterproof vinyl plank. For bedrooms, living rooms, hallways and other dry rooms, it is a smart way to get rid of tired carpet without stretching the budget.

The honest catch: most laminate has a wood-fiber core, and standing water can make it swell. So we will tell you straight where laminate belongs in your house and where vinyl plank or tile is the better call. You get a room-by-room recommendation, not a sales pitch.

Questions

Laminate Installation Questions

Is laminate waterproof?

Most laminate is not. Some newer products are sold as water-resistant, which buys you time to wipe up a spill, but the core can still swell if water sits on it or gets underneath. For bathrooms and laundry rooms we recommend vinyl plank or tile instead.

Laminate or vinyl plank — which should I get?

If the room stays dry and budget matters most, laminate is a good floor. If the room sees water, spilled drinks or pets, waterproof vinyl plank is worth the difference. Plenty of homes get both — laminate in the bedrooms, vinyl plank in the kitchen and baths — and we quote it all on one written price.

Can laminate go over my existing floor?

Sometimes. Laminate floats, so it can go over a flat, solid floor such as sheet vinyl or tile in good shape. Carpet always comes up first. We check what you have at the free measure and tell you whether it can stay.

How long does a laminate install take?

Most homes take one to three days once we start, depending on the square footage and how much old flooring comes up first. We give you the schedule with your quote.

Do I need to move out while you work?

No. We move the furniture, work room by room so you always have somewhere to be, and the old floor leaves with us.
